A two-hour edition of Dancing With the Stars kept ABC well in front on Monday night in terms of total viewership, well outpacing its nearest competitor CBS by nearly 4 million viewers (3.7M). The 10:00 p.m. hour hurt ABC though, which fell to second place on the evening among adults 18-49, behind CBS.
CBS was paced by another strong showing from its comedy block from 8:00-10:00 (the Britney Spears guest-starring episode of How I Met Your Mother posted series highs) and the return of CSI Miami at 10:00, which improved upon its last newly aired episode (which aired in January) by 1.03 million or 7% among viewers and 12% among adults 18-49.
Elsewhere on the evening NBC and Fox battled for third place, with the two networks tying for third among adults 18-49 (Fox getting the better of NBC among total audience) and The CW sank to a barely visible last place on the evening with only 1.32M viewers tuning in to watch the network.
ABC finished in first place for the evening with a 10.5/16 household rating/share and 16.20 million viewers, but was second among adults 18-49 with a 4.2/11 rating/share.

Ratings for the current day are based on fast nationals. (Expect all three scenarios to be the case at all times, unless otherwise noted). The final rating for first-run episodes that aired this evening will be reported the following week. So for example, the final rating for tonights episode of “Dancing With the Stars” will be reported in next weeks report for Monday, March 31, 2008.
