The CW has decided to pick up its newly developed reality series 13 (working title) from creator Sam Raimi. The show will debut on the network this summer.
Dawn Ostroff commented on the pickup: “This series is the first to take the horror movie into the reality world,” said Ostroff. “The action takes contestants on a journey with challenges and games designed to frighten them along the way. Similar to horror films, the challenges will play into our deepest fears and anxieties and will reveal things the contestants never knew about themselves.”
With the networks scripted programming failing to attract significant audiences, the network is more and more leaning on its development of what is surely cheaply produced reality programming. But judging by recent performances from such series —Crowned, Pussycat Dolls Present–the decision hasn’t translated to strong ratings.
