This one came out of nowhere. Paramount has detailed plans to shuffle several of their upcoming major releases. Star Trek, originally set to hit theaters on December 25, 2008, is being pushed back to May 8, 2009.
Studio insiders say the move was made because they believe the movie has large box office potential, and a summer release benefits it more.
Other movies shuffled:
- DreamWorks’ Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder from July 11, 2008 to August 15, 2008.
- Paramount’s Eddie Murphy family film Nowhereland from September 26, 2008 to June 12, 2009.
- Paramount’s Renee Zellweger horror-thriller Case 39 from Aug. 22, 2008 to April 10, 2009.
- And David Fincher’s Brad Pitt starring film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button from Nov. 26, 2008, to Dec. 19, 2008.
Paramount also dated two titles. The Martin Scorsese directed film Shutter Island, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, will hit theaters on Octtober 2, 2009. And an untitled comedy produced by the Marlon and Shawn Wayans will be released on February 9, 2009.Source: Variety
