Director Neil Marshall announced, via his blog, that Universal Studios has set a release date of March 14, 2008 for the Sci-Fi horror film DOOMSDAY.

The quick note from the director reads as follows:

It’s official, DOOMSDAY will be released cinemas in the US by Universal on MARCH 14th!

Marshall, who’s located in the UK, noted that a release date for that region has not yet been set.

A quick scan of the release date reveals that the film won’t have much competition in terms of its genre, with only the Warner Independent horror film Funny Games set for that date (and in limited release).

Other wide-opening releases on that date include New Line’s Pride & Glory, Summit Entertainment’s Never Back Down and the sure to draw a crowd animated flick Horton Hears a Who.

Written by Marshall, DOOMSDAY stars Rhona Mitra, Bob Hoskins, Alexander Siddig and Adrian Lester.
