Comprised of footage from the sequel, Johnny Knoxville and his crew are debuting their next film, Jackass 2.5, exclusively online.
The film will be available December 19 through a deal with Blockbuster.
An hour in length, the feature will mix extra footage shot from last year’s Jackass 2 as well as new content. It’ll be hosted by Blockbuster and stream for free with ads.
This is the first major studio feature to debut online. VP of new media and speciality content at MTV Networks David Gale had the following to say: “It’s in the vein of ‘Kill Bill’ 1 and 2. After shooting ‘Jackass Number 2,’ we had more than one movie. So, we shot some new stuff (in September) and added some of that new content.”
Users can watch the film on Jackassworld.com, a new site developed by MTV and Johnny Knoxville’s Dickhouse productions arm. It’ll remain on the site for 1 week through December 26. After that, it’ll be available from sites such as iTunes and Amazon.com to download to own, and other retailers will sell the DVD.
Jackass: The Movie and Jackass Number 2 grossed a combined $137.1 million domestically for Paramount.
