Superbad remained in front on Friday, holding off several new releases and holdovers (and by a comfortable margin I might add) with an estimated $5.70 million from 2,948 theaters. The well-reviewed and highly recommended comedy has taken in an impressive $56.27 million through eight days of release, nearly two times its production budget ($30 million). The comedy was able to hold off the weak crop of new releases (War, Mr. Bean’s Holiday) and The Nanny Diaries), the well performing The Bourne Ultimatum (now in its fourth week) and Rush Hour 3. It looks to be headed for a $17-19 million weekend, which would mean a weekend dip below 50% and quite possibly below even 45%. Without a doubt now, $100+ million is a lock.

In second place on Friday was The Bourne Ultimatum with an estimated $3.66 million from 3,679 theaters, pushing its domestic total to $176.44 million through 22 days of release. The film had a remarkable Thursday to Friday jump of 103.8%, tops among all tracked films on Friday.

Looking at the weekends new releases, Lionsgates’ War opened in third place with an estimated $3.50 million from 2,277 theaters, while Universal’s Mr. Bean’s Holiday rounded out the top 5 in fifth place with an estimated $3.22 million from 1,714 theaters.

Out of the top 5 in sixth place was MGM (Weinstein)’s The Nanny Diaries with an estimated $2.65 million from 2,629 theaters.

And filling out the top 5 was Rush Hour 3 in fourth place with an estimated $3.48 million from 3,408 theaters. More important for the film though was that it surpassed the $100 million mark, as through 15 days of release it has taken in an estimated $100.24 million.

That’s all for Friday’s box office. Be sure to check back on Sunday to view the complete top 10 grossing films for the weekend.

SUPERBAD was really funny. It deserves the money success it’s been getting lately.
but I think just as funny or even more hilarious is the movie DEATH AT A FUNERAL, trust me, check that one out!
