“Masters of Science Fiction” Sees Boost In Second Week August 14, 2007 1:14 am

When Masters of Science Fiction, the short-run science fiction series on ABC, premiered on Saturday, August 5th, ABC seemed to be right it showing little faith in the series, as it premiered to very low ratings. But week 2 saw a solid increase for the series, one that could make ABC take notice if the trend continues.
Six episodes of the series were produced, and the show was originally scheduled to debut much earlier in the season. ABC, however decided to hold off on premiering the show, with insistence that its quality wasn’t up to par and the network had several problems with it. In the end, the network ordered only four of the produced six episodes, and episode two aired this past Saturday.
Back to the ratings, the series premiered with the following weak numbers: 2.73 million viewers a 1.9/4 HH rating, and a 0.8/3 A18-49 rating. Devastatingly low for a series premiere, but given the networks low expectations, not entirely unexpected. However, week two saw a dramatic increase in viewership. Based on fast nationals for week two (finals for week one), the episode increased by 1.47 million or 54% among viewers and 88% among adults 18-49 (ratings for week two were 4.20M viewers and a 1.5/5 A18-49 rating).
Who knows where the show goes from here, and whether or not the final two episodes will be shown on broadcast television (or beyond) , but I do know one thing, I’m going to continue to enjoy this wonderful science fiction series, in spite of the fact ABC expects me not to.
