IESB has learned that Paramount has offered Stephen Sommers the job to direct GI Joe.

From prior news, IESB learned that Mark Wahlberg was in line to play the title role (news article here), but nothing official has come out about the casting.

Sommers’ past work includes the three Mummy related films (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King) and his most recent outing was Van Helsing.  At least looking at those credits, you can easily gather that he knows how to make a fun action film.

He’s currently working on the 2008 release When World’s Collide.
