New details have been revealed on the game-to-film adaption of Warcraft.

During BlizzCon 2007, the annual fan event hosted by Blizzard Entertainment (creator of Warcraft), Blizzard CEO Chris Metzen and Legendary Pictures (who purchased the film rights last year) head Thomas Tull talked about the film project.

IGN was on hand and relayed the following:

“The story will incorporate a series of major events from about one year before World of Warcraft, and will be principally told from the perspective of the Alliance.”

Additionally, the site added that “characters likely to make an appearance include Bolvar Fordragon, Thrall, and Cairne Bloodhoof. Arthas, a famous character from Warcraft 3, will more than likely not be in the film.”

Tull (who was the EP of high profile releases such as 300 and Superman Returns) said that in terms of the director, they are looking at someone along the lines of a Zack Snyder (300) or a Chris Nolan (Batman Begins)

The film has a budget of over $100 million and is being set up for a 2009 release by Warner Bros.
