“Smallville’s” Supergirl Cast July 12, 2007 10:44 am

Following up on a prior announcement that the producers of Smallville were searching for an actress to play the role of Supergirl, which will be introduced this coming season, we learn from People magazine that the role has been cast.
Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort will play the role of Supergirl and begins shooting alongside Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum and Aaron Ashmore next week in Vancouver, Canada.
Smallville co-creator Al Gough told the magazine that Laura is “a combination of beauty, intelligence, a certain warmth, and great attitude,” adding “We’ve wanted a character to shake things up. Gough teased that “She may be Clark Kent’s cousin, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to be the obedient one!”
The character of Kara, Clark’s cousin, was previously introduced on the series. She was born on Krypton and has all of Clark’s powers plus the ability to fly.
