With Warner Bros. passing on renewing their rights to the Conan: The Barbarian franchise, Variety is reporting that the film rights to the Robert E. Howard classic are being picked up New Line Cinema.
Variety reports that the studio, which was competing with many others for the rights, was the only one willing to put up the money ($1 million for one years rights). They’ll get an 18 month option, with one extension.
Any existing versions of Conan The Barbarian scripts will remain with Warner Bros., which means New Line will be starting from scratch on the project.
