A ‘Fantastic’ Start to the Weekend June 16, 2007 11:16 am

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer had an amazing opening Friday, debuting with a strong $22.75 million from 3,959 theaters. The film is now tracking for a total weekend take of between $55-61 million.
Estimates for the film put it around this mark, but the studio had recently been lowering expectations for the film, insisting they’d be satisfied, and were expecting, a first weekend take below what the original made ($21.26 million on Friday, $56.06 million through the weekend).
Based on these early Friday returns, I’m predicting a $60 million weekend for the film.
