Sony has cut the price of the PSP Core Pack. The price of the pack (which includes the system, an AC adaptor and a battery) will be reduced in price from $199.99 to $169.99, effective April 3.

“We expect a modest step-up in PSP unit sales during an otherwise seasonally slower period for the video game industry,” said Lazard Capital Markets’ Colin Sebastian. “We note that a Wal-Mart promotion on Black Friday last year generated significant sales volume for the PSP at a discounted price of $169, providing one indication of potential consumer demand.”

The Sony PSP is currently the second highest selling handheld system in North America, with sales of just over 8M. Nintendo’s DS is number one, with sales domestically here approaching the 12M mark.
