Weekend Box Office — February 16-18, 2007 Plus President’s Day February 20, 2007 11:52 pm

Sony’s Ghost Rider opened very strong on Friday, and increased its box office take on Saturday to win the weekend with $45.39M from 3,619 theaters ($52.02M when you include the Monday holiday.

There were only two other new releases in the top 10 (there were a few movies which opened on Wednesday, more on those down below), Buena Vista’s Bridge to Terabithia which came in second, taking in $22.56M from 3,139 theaters and Universal’s Breach, which came in sixth place with a respectable bow of $10.50M from only 1,489 sites.

Of the movies which opened this past Wednesday, Music and Lyrics came out ahead with $13.62M from 2,955 sites ($19.15 through 5 days of release) for a fourth place finish. The other Wednesday opener, Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls followed right behind in fifth place with $11.21M from 2,111 sites ($16.90M through 5 days of release).

Rounding out the top 10 was Norbit dropping 50.9% from atop the charts last week to number three this week with $16.78M from 3,138 theaters ($58.86M through 10 days of release), Hannibal Rising dropping five spots and 58.5% to number seven with $5.42M from 3,003 theaters ($22.08M through 10 days of release), Because I Said So dropping five spots and 44.7% to eighth place with $5.10M from 2,446 theaters ($33.36M through 10 days of release), The Messengers also dropping five spots and 47.9% to ninth place with $3.76M from 2,183 sites ($30.47M through 17 days of release) and lastly at number 10 was Night at the Museum which continues to hold in the top 10 despite dropping 5 spots and 35.6% (the weekends best holdover from the week prior), taking in $3.70M from 2,042 sites ($237.34M through 59 days of release).

The best per theater average went to Ghost Rider, which averaged $12,541 per theater.

For the holiday on Monday, Ghost Rider added an additional $6.63M, followed by Bridge to Terabithia at a close second with $5.97M, Norbit with $3.15M, Music and Lyrics with $2.25M, Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls with $1.85M, Breach with $1.76M, Night at the Museum with $1.16M, Because I Said So with $0.95M, Hannibal Rising with $0.84M and lastly The Messenger with $0.58M.
