NBC has canceled the soap-opera Passions, which ran for eight seasons.

The contract for the show is held by NBC until June, but it’s believed the network will try to negotiate a slightly longer contract (through August) when at that time they will have the fourth hour of Today ready to take its place.

UPDATE: The series was picked up by DirecTV and will air on The 101.  Details are in this post.

What will I do with my 2pm hour every day, I will not be watching another BORING hour of the Today Show. What is wrong with NBC? I am so heartbroken!!!!

If you look directly above your post, Kenya, you’ll see that DirecTV picked the show up. It has been un-canceled.

Are you NUTS don’t cancel passions for that old tired today show. All they will do is repeat the same news for a hour.

Ronda, as you can see from the post above, the show was picked up by DirecTV.

Great news Passions fans!!! Not only will Direct TV be taking over the soap opera Passions but Canadians will now be able to watch Passions past it’s cancellation on NBC. Allarco Entertainment, a new Pay Television provider that is starting up in October will now be airing Passions for Canadians. You will have to subcribe to this Premium service to get it though. I know this for a FACT because I myself spoke with Allarco Enteratainment today and they told me under no uncertain terms that they will indeed be airing Passions. They also informed me that they will also be showing all of the shows that have not been aired in Canada for the month of September. You can now let out a sigh of relief because we did it!!! PASSIONS IS SAVED IN CANADA, YAY

Jonathan Foley: Dear Viewers of Passions,
I contacted Rogers Television lately to inquire about SoapNet because I heard that Direct Tv was picking it up. They sent me an intersting e-mail that I would like to share:

Dear Jonathan,

SoapNet is not licensed for carriage in Canada. However, the CDN rights
for Passions have been purchase by Allarco, a new Pay TV operator in
Canada. This new service is going to be launching in October 2007.

Regards,
Nancy Cottenden
Corporate Communications

From what I understand this new Premium service will bring Passions to Canadian viewers but not until October. You will need to subcribe to it, but it won’t be available until October.

Thanks for the information Jonathan.

BIG NEWS, Allarco entertainment will introduce six new channels, Passions will be seen on one of their standard channels, you will not need a high definition TV, for all thosde people who were worried about it. I just got off the phone with Allarco Entertainment.

Jonathan Foley's avatar 16. Jonathan Foley - July 12, 2007 5:27 pm

Don’t shoot the messenger, but I might have good news for you American viewers of Passions!!!! That’s what I read on this website.

http://www.newsday.com/news/columnists/ny-ettell5203813may09,0,1991483.column?coll=ny-news-columnists

here’s the paragraph taken straight from it!!!

DirecTV’s pickup of “Passions” – to air on its original programming channel, The 101 – is designed to lure some of the show’s 2 million viewers, a piddling number for networks but a big ‘un for satellite originals. The soap’s run on NBC (which, ironically, produces “Passions” through its own NBC Universal studio) ends Sept. 7. The show then re-premieres from orbit Sept. 17. (How much of the existing cast and crew will make the move hasn’t been announced.) It’ll air weekdays in the same 2 p.m. time slot, and DirecTV throws in weekend encores, a la cable’s SOAPnet.

I never did look into this, I’m not American, I’m a Canadian, I know that allarco entertainment is showing Passions in Canada, I just found this website in my quest to save it here. I really hope it’s true for you guys!!!

Ok I Watched Passions everyday Since The Biginning And I Dont Know Why You Have To Pay To Watch It Or Why Doesn’t It Get Moved To A Different Channel In Canada. What About The People Who Cant Afford It And Really Like Passions eh?…Imagine How They Feel.

Sabrina's avatar 18. Sabrina - August 31, 2007 9:22 pm

Hi, I’m so glad that Passions is saved! I have some questions about Allarco Entertainment though. How does it work? Is it just a channel that I can watch? I have Rogers Cable right now, so do I subscribe to Allarco? Then what? Do i need to pay extra for the channel, and then I can just watch it on a special channel on my t.v. normally? So is it kind of like the movie channels that I can get on Rogers? Please, please get back to me, because I’ve been mourning over Passions the last few days, since next week is the last week it will be airing on NBC!

Sabrina's avatar 19. Sabrina - August 31, 2007 11:38 pm

I read up a bit more on Allarco Entertainment. So is Allarco trying to get a station to air Passions, or are they going to have their own channel airing it? I hope they get a provider because I really don’t want to have to pay for another channel just to watch one show.

Rosario T. Calabria's avatar 20. Russ T.C. - September 1, 2007 1:08 am

Hi Sabrina. This is my understanding of the situation (Jonathon has done some extensive looking into the situation as well, his posts are on this article as well as this one).

In October of this year, Allarco Entertainment will be launching several PPV channels, one of them is called Super Channel. That station will be airing the Passions episodes in Canada. If you want to watch the show in the US, the only option is DirecTV (you can call a special phone number: 888-999-0433, or visit a site they’ve set up: http://www.directv.com/passions. They’re offering free installation, a free upgrade to a DVR or HD receiver and a free portable DVD player for signing up).

So basically, the company is negotiating with different cable and satellite providers to carry their network. If it’s carried by your cable/satellite provider than you will be able to pay-to-view the series.

Your best option is to call your cable provider and ask them if they will be carrying Super Channel (from Allarco Entertainment) and if yes, if they have any idea on the pricing structure for Passions.

Hope that helps!

Sabrina's avatar 21. Sabrina - September 1, 2007 5:41 pm

Thanks a lot Russ T.C. That was helpful. I have one more question. I know it’s not certain yet, but about how much do you think it’ll be? I’m hoping that it’s not $30 or something like that, because that’s way too much, I was thinking around $10 per month, because I have Rogers and I once had an extra 5 channels for movies like the Movie Network, and it only cost around 10. I’m hoping it’s the same with Allarco.

Rosario T. Calabria's avatar 22. Russ T.C. - September 1, 2007 7:25 pm

I’ll see if I can get any pricing information and get back to you Sabrina.

Jonathan foley's avatar 23. Jonathan foley - September 2, 2007 8:19 pm

yeah, these news channels(SuperChannel) will be premium channels just like the Movie Network, Movie Central is.
They are airing Passions when it launches in October. take a look at their website here for more info

Sabrina's avatar 27. Sabrina - September 3, 2007 4:48 pm

thanks! okay, so one LAST question. I watched the Passions LIVE and Eric said that we can continue watching passions on nbc.com. Okay, do any of you guys know why it doesn’t work for me? Sometimes, I can watch the episodes and videos on the site, and sometimes it says that i can’t watch the video from my location, which is in Toronto, Canada. I really want to watch it, so do you guys have any suggestions on how to fix that problem, or know any other place where I can watch passions besides nbc.com if it doesn’t work there?

Jonathan foley's avatar 28. Jonathan foley - September 4, 2007 9:46 am

I honestly don’t know what to tell you. I used to be able to watch Passions at any time from Canada on NBC.com, but yeah, I see your dilema. Maybe it’s only available to Americans because I can’t access them now either. I don’t know. check the site again on the 18th to see if it’s available then. If you don’t get it online though you can watch the episodes in October on SuperChannel anyways in October if you sub to it then. All episodes will be available on SupErchannel in October.

You can read about that here:

NBC Sucks! First they get rid of my Passions [I will not buy DirectTV, many of my friends have had it and went back to regular cable because they lose Direst everytime the wind blows] and now they have messed up my Days. They have totally moved everything around. The Today has 4 hours in the morning [whatever] and then there are the shows in between that I don’t watch and Monday I sat to watch my Days at 1pm like I have forever and who do I see “MARTHA” She took the 1pm slot and they moved Days to Passions old 2pm slot. Not only does this mean I have to tape it like I used to with Passions but I have nothing to watch now at 1pm. I leave at 2:30 to get my kids from school. What is wrong with leaving things the way they were. AND they got rid of the news at 5pm. I have always watched NBC and I hope that they are sorry in the long run that they did this to Passions and us loyal fans. I miss my Passions!!! Thank you for letting me rant!!!

I believe that if Passions will be airing on Direct tv they should at least have a re-run channel on timewarner or cable. I got Direct tv and it sucks. I am actually canceling it on Monday because One show is all I got it for. I have had it since thursday and have had nothing but problems
