Soccer star David Beckham has decided to leave Real Madrid (of Spain) to join the L.A. Galaxy of Major League Soccer in one of the largest sports deals ever.

The deal is reported to be for five years at more than $250 million.

You read that right, more than $50 million a year.

Beckham’s contract includes not only a salary for his soccer play (estimated to be only about one-fifth, or about $10M a year), but endorsements for the many companies he represents, such as Adidas and PepsiCo.

He will continue playing with Madrid through June and join the Galaxy mid-season around August.
