At the Consumer Electronics Show, Verizon has announced that it will launch a live mobile television service called V Cast Mobile TV. The service is expected to begin in Q1 of 2007
The service will initally be filled with content by CBS, Fox, NBC and MTV Networks (such as Comedy Central, MTV and Nickelodeon).UHF channel 55 will be used to deliver the content to the service. In markets where there is currently a broadcast channel occupying that location, Verizon says they are working with the broadcaster in regards to possible interference. (This will become a moot point in 2009 when stations in the 52-69 range will be vacated due to new Digital TV transition rules).
Verizon hopes to have 20 channels available at launch. Pricing has not yet been disclosed.
