Fox’s World Series coverage gave the network the win in households, viewers and adults 18-49, though ratings were down significantly from last year.

FOX finished first for the evening with an 8.7/15 HH rating (13.64M viewers) and a 4.0/12 A18-49 rating.

  • Last Week’s Numbers:
    • 2.4/4 HH rating [#5]
    • 3.55M viewers [#5]
    • 1.4/4 A18-49 rating [#5]
  • At 8:00 PM, “MLB World Series Game 5: Detroit Tigers at St Louis Cardinals” (8.7/15 HH rating, 13.64M viewers, 4.0/12 A18-49 rating) won the evening in households, viewers and adults 18-49, but ratings were down a good deal from last year. Though there was no game 5 in the series last season, the final game, Game 4, drew considerably higher ratings; 10.4/16 (4.9), 19.98M viewers.

CBS followed in second for the evening with a 7.1/12 HH rating (10.87M viewers) and a 3.0/9 A18-49 rating.

    • 11.08M viewers [#1]
    • 3.1/10 A18-49 rating [#2]
  • At 8:00 PM, “Ghost Whisperer”, (7.0/13 HH rating, 10.79M viewers, 3.0/11 A18-49 rating) drew strong ratings, increasing its audience a bit from the week prior.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 6.7/12 to 7.0/13
      • Viewers – 10.26M to 10.79M
      • A18-49 – 2.9/10 to 3.0/11
  • At 9:00 PM, “Close to Home” (7.1/12 HH rating, 10.81M viewers, 2.7/8 A18-49 rating) put up consistent numbers, holding onto and gaining ever so slightly from its lead in in households and viewers.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 7.3/13 to 7.1/12
      • Viewers – 11.15M to 10.81M
      • A18-49 – 2.8/9 to 2.7/8
  • At 10:00 PM, “Numb3rs” (7.1/12 HH rating, 11.01M viewers, 3.1/9 A18-49 rating) dipped some from the week before, but still performed strongly, winning the evening for the Eye in households, viewers and adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 7.8/14 to 7.1/12
      • Viewers – 11.83M to 11.01M
      • A18-49 – 3.5/11 to 3.1/9

NBC finished in third place with a 6.0/10 HH rating (9.20M viewers), and a 2.8/9 A18-49 rating.

  • Last Week’s Numbers:
    • 7.0/12 HH rating [#2]
    • 10.97M viewers [#2]
    • 3.2/10 A18-49 rating [#1]
  • At 8:00 PM, “1 vs. 100” (6.1/11 HH rating, 9.53M viewers, 2.8/9 A18-49 rating) struggled some in its third week, but still put up good numbers.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers (aired at 9:00 PM last week):
      • Households – 7.2/13 to 6.1/11
      • Viewers – 11.90M to 9.53M
      • A18-49 – 3.7/12 to 2.8/9
  • At 9:00 PM, the fourth season premiere of “Las Vegas” (6.0/10 HH rating, 9.28M viewers, 3.5/9 A18-49 rating) was fairly even with its third season finale which aired May 12, 2006: 6.2/11 (3.2), 9.76M viewers. For comparison sakes, here are the numbers for the season 3 premiere, which aired on a Monday: September 19, 2005; 8.0/12 (4.6) 12.49M viewers.
    • Season Final to Season Premiere Numbers:
      • Households – 6.2/11 to 6.0/10
      • Viewers – 9.76M to 9.28M
      • A18-49 – 3.2/9 to 3.1/9
  • At 10:00 PM, “Law & Order” (6.0/10 HH rating, 8.79M viewers, 2.6/8 A18-49 rating) faltered a good deal, shedding viewers, households and adults 18-49 from the week prior. Though I think its safe to assume this was a symptom of viewer tune-out due to the last hour of the world series, as it wasn’t the only 10:00 PM show to experience a drop (as noted above with “Numb3rs”).
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 6.7/12 to 6.0/10
      • Viewers – 10.07M to 8.79M
      • A18-49 – 3.0/10 to 2.6/8

ABC followed in fourth for the evening with a 4.9/8 HH rating (7.57M viewers) and a 2.5/8 A18-49 rating.

  • Last Week’s Numbers:
    • 4.4/8 HH rating [#3]
    • 6.19M viewers [#3]
    • 2.5/8 A18-49 rating [#3]
  • At 8:00 PM, a special “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown—40th Anniversary” (4.6/8 HH rating, 7.89M viewers, 2.6/9 A18-49 rating) didn’t draw much of an audience, but it did improve greatly over the failed “Extreme Makeover” re-launch of last week.
    • Week-to-Week Time-Period Numbers (“Extreme Makeover”):
      • Households – 3.5/6 to 4.6/8
      • Viewers – 4.91M to 7.89M
      • A18-49 – 1.4/5 to 2.6/9
  • At 9:00 PM, “Men in Trees” (4.5/8 HH rating, 6.84M viewers, 2.2/6 A18-49 rating) improved upon its series low ratings last week, but it failed to hold onto its lead-in and was ABC’s weak link on the night.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 4.4/8 to 4.5/8
      • Viewers – 6.16M to 6.84M
      • A18-49 – 1.6/5 to 2.2/6
  • At 10:00 PM, “20/20” (5.6/10 HH rating, 7.97M viewers, 2.7/8 A18-49 rating) gave its usual strong performance, winning the evening for ABC in households, viewers and adults 18-49.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 5.3/10 to 5.6/10
      • Viewers – 7.49M to 7.97M
      • A18-49 – 2.5/8 to 2.7/8

The CW finished in fifth place with a 2.7/5 HH rating (4.44M viewers), and a 1.4/5 A18-49 rating.

  • Last Week’s Number’s:
    • 2.7/5 HH rating [#4]
    • 4.57M viewers [#4]
    • 1.5/4 A18-49 rating [#4]
  • From 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, “WWE Smackdown” (2.7/5 HH rating, 4.44M viewers, 1.4/5 A18-49 rating) stayed consistent from the week prior with virtually no change week to week.
    • Week-to-Week Numbers:
      • Households – 2.7/5 to 2.7/5
      • Viewers – 4.57M to 4.44M
      • A18-49 – 1.5/5 to 1.4/5
