Lucky Louie

The short running adult comedy series that began this season on HBO was canceled today.

The series ran for 13 episodes and averaged 1.3M viewers, hardly enough to warrant a renewal, especially when many critics didn’t find much to like with its approach towards humor. Its sex and curse word laced episodes differed heavily from most half-hour sitcoms out there.

“Louis is an incredible talent and a wonderful partner,” said Carolyn Strauss, president of HBO Entertainment, in a statement. “We loved trying our first multicamera show with him, and we look forward to other projects with Louis in the future.”

We laughed so hard our sides hurt. What a shame something fresh and creative
like this gets snuffed out after only one season.

If I had seen only one or two episodes, I probably would disagree with you.

But the show improved episode to episode, and there were many laugh-out-loud moments. It would have been nice to see the show continue.

That was unfortunate to hear that the show got cancelled. Lucky Louie gave a honest and unfiltered look into the relationships that real people are having in this world. It is a shame that HBO did not let this show have an adequate chance of attaining a loyal fan base and most imjportantly – introducing a life that is more in line with the majority instead of the priviledged few.

Bring Back Lucky Louie and tell these stuff shirt people to lighten up. Lucky Louie had me rolling on the floor. Lets hope another network picks this one up. Cant compare this show with Entourage, 2 entirly different demographics. Given another another year this show would have the viewer numbers of Entourage.

I agree. Lucky Louie was absolutely hilarious. I was shocked to hear it was cancelled. I was waiting for the next season. Why do the good shows get cancelled? HBO cancelled Rome too? HBO doesn’t know what they’re doing.

lisha –

“HBO cancelled Rome too?”

I don’t think they necessarily cancelled Rome, more that it was really only envisioned to be 2 seasons….

Rome wasn’t necessarily intended to just go two seasons, they came to that decision when ratings weren’t as strong as they hoped (actually, they started off strong, but faded).

It had an insanely high budget (more than $10M/episode), and HBO split the cost with BBC. The show was simply too expensive for production to continue.

whoever cancelled this show did it out of fear of losing his/her job. Louie CK has broken the ice and shown TV folks a new boundary. Don’t kowtow to the people who want to put clothes on everything.
