Entertainment Weekly has confirmed Vulture’s report about Angelina Jolie not reprising her role in Wanted 2, but the site adds that Vulture was not right when they reported that Jolie opted to do Alfonso Cuarón’s space thriller Gravity instead:

NY Mag’s Vulture blog is reporting that Angelina Jolie has turned down the chance to reprise her role in Wanted 2 and rather than recast the lead, Universal has decided to pull the plug on the Timur Bekmambetov-directed sequel:
We’ve just heard the actress has pulled out of the planned Timur Bekmambetov-directed sequel at Universal, and the studio has pulled the plug rather than recast the film.
As for Jolie, Vulture reports that the actress is now eying the Warner Brothers space thriller Gravity, from Children of Men director Alfonso Cuarón, which he co-wrote with his son Jonás:

Mark Millar revealed to Superhero Hype that the script for Wanted 2 is complete and that the film will begin shooting in eight weeks. Millar added that the sequel will revolve around the international group of assassins from issues 4 and 5 from Millar’s graphic novel.

Chris Morgan, writer of the 2008’s Wanted offered his thoughts on the decision to go with a new writer, Evan Spiliotopoulos, for the sequel, Wanted 2:

When Universal Pictures announced that they had hired Winnie the Pooh writer Evan Spiliotopoulos to script Wanted 2 (see related article), there was a fair amount of negative reaction. Now Wanted co-creator Mark Millar has chimed in on the matter over at his official message board, says there’s no cause for concern:

Well this hire from Universal Pictures certainly seems like an odd choice, on paper at least.
