Avatar hits DVD and Blu-ray on April 22

20th Century Fox has officially announced that James Cameron’s Avatar will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on the 40th anniversary of Earth Day (April 22).  The press release follows after the jump (plus a full look at the Blu-ray + DVD cover art).

James Cameron: Avatar could get theatrical re-release (possibly extended) + Titanic 3D in 2012

In a USA Today article with James Cameron about the future of 3D technology, the Avatar director revealed that he is hoping to release the film in 3D on Blu-ray this fall, but 20th Century Fox is considering a theatrical re-release:

Avatar Passes $200M at IMAX Worldwide

James Cameron’s Avatar grossed $8.2 million worldwide in its 10th weekend from IMAX screens ($4.3M from 179 IMAX theaters domestically and $3.9M from 84 IMAX theaters overseas),  pushing its worldwide IMAX cume to more than $200 million.  Here’s the approximate worldwide breakdown:
