“The Brave One” Leads Friday Box Office September 15, 2007 12:35 pm

Warner Bros.’ Jodie Foster revenge tale vehicle The Brave One opened the weekend with a first place $4.55 million (estimated) from 2,755 theaters on Friday.
The film held off last week’s number one as well as two other new releases. One of those new releases, the New Line comedy Mr. Woodcock, took second place with an estimated $2.75 million from 2,231 theaters, while Freestyle Releasing’s Dragon Wars: D-War took fifth place with an estimated $1.55 million from 2,275 theaters.
The Brave One is on pace for about a $14.0-14.5 million weekend, while Mr. Woodcock will take in about $8.0-8.5 million and Dragon Wars: D-War should finish up with around $4.50-4.75 million.
That left last week’s number one film 3:10 to Yuma in third place with an estimated $2.74 million from 2,667 theaters, pushing its eight day total to $22.14 million. Look for this western to rope up about $8.75-9.0 million.
Rounding out the top 5 in fourth place for Friday was Superbad with an estimated $1.68 million from 2,910 theaters ($107.81 million through 29 days of release).
Moving to the rest of the holdovers in the bottom 10, we start off with Halloween in sixth place with an estimated $1.54 million from 3,051 theaters. The horror film continues to pace downward as it heads for another 50%+ drop, but it has taken in a respectable $47.79 million through 15 days of release thanks to a strong opening week frame.
The Bourne Ultimatum continues with its strong legs, adding another $1.24 million to its domestic total from a still healthy 2,610 theaters. It stands at $213.28 million through 43 days of release, and has added another $100 million plus from its overseas take. Already well past The Bourne Supremacy (the prior leader for the franchise) in both categories.
The remaining three spots in the top 10 had films all below the $1 million mark. They were led by Balls of Fury in eighth place with an estimated $965,000 from 2,758 theaters. ($26.50 million through 17 days of release).
That was followed up by Rush Hour 3 in ninth place with an estimated $900,000 from 2,208 theaters ($130.76 million through 36 days of release) and lastly in 10th place was Shoot ‘Em Up, which looks destined for a 55% or so weekly drop with an estimated $810,000 on Friday from 2,108 theaters (that’s a fairly dismal $8.57 million through eight days of release).
