It’s Monday, which means a new batch of releases for Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console service The three games released today are NES Open Tournament Golf (NES), World Sports Competition (TurboGrafx-16) and Bloody Wolf (TurboGrafx-16).

The L.A. Times has revealed the motorcycle (titled “Batpod”) that Batman will be riding in the upcoming Batman Begins follow-up, The Dark Knight.

Blockbuster has decided to favor Blu-ray over HD DVD when it comes to offering rentals of the high-definition discs at a majority of their B&M stores. HD DVD movies will still be rented at a select amont of stores and through their online service.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer exceeded expectations over the weekend, debuting with $58.05 million from 3,959 theaters, ahead of the originals $56.06 million (from 3,602 theaters). Year-to-year, box-office was down very slightly (-1.5%). (more…)

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End topped $500 million at the overseas box office on Tuesday, hitting the mark in 20 days, a new record for a film hitting that mark, so says distributor Buena Vista.

Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer had an amazing opening Friday, debuting with a strong $22.75 million from 3,959 theaters. The film is now tracking for a total weekend take of between $55-61 million.

Studios sure seem intent on limiting content in film’s this summer to ensure lower ratings. First Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer got a PG rating (by the way, first reviews are not kind to the movie, it’s currently sitting at 36% at RT), and now Live Free or Die Hard has been given a PG-13 rating, surely unexpected given the previous film’s common place R ratings.

Never one to pass up on new projects, David Goyer has added yet another film project to his already extensive development slate. The director has committed to writing and directing what will likely be a sequel to the H.G. Wells classic The Invisible Man.

According to a report in the Financial Times, Apple is looking into launching an online film rental service, and is currently in talks with several major Hollywood studios in hopes to get the service off the ground.

According to the L.A. Times, a screenplay has been completed by Mark Protosevich (I am Legend, Poseidon) for a live-action adaptation of Thor and early details indicate that Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust) is being approached to direct the film.
