Guy Ritchie attached to direct Treasure Island

Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers has hired Guy Ritchie to direct a big screen version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.

Alex Harakis is writing the script and Ritchie will also produce.

Warner Brothers delays Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity to 2013, Sets August 7, 2012 release for Gangster Squad + Trailer for Gangster Squad

Originally scheduled for release on November 21, 2012, Warner Brothers has announced that Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity will slip into 2013 (day/month TBA). Cuarón is directing and wrote the script with his son Jonás Cuarón. WB, meanwhile, set a September 7, 2012 release date for Ruben Fleischer’s Gangster Squad. The teaser trailer for Gangster Squad was released last week and can be viewed over the jump.

The studio also made a slight tweak to Richard LaGravenese’s Beautiful Creatures, pushing the film up two days from February 15, 2013 to Wednesday, February 13, 2012.

$29.1M for The Avengers en route to possible $100M weekend + Dark Shadows 2nd with $9.7M Friday

The Avengers beat expectations again with an easy first place estimated $29.124M (est. $299.143M cume) dwarfing the competition including newcomer Dark Shadows. The Tim Burton-directed / Johnny Depp-starring comedy thriller opened to a so-so estimated $9.72M from 3,755 theaters and will probably open somewhere in the neighborhood of $28-30M for the weekend.

Warner Brothers has released the trailer — and a poster — for the Ben Affleck-directed thriller Argo. The film is based on the covert operation to rescue six Americans during the Iran hostage crisis. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Warner Brothers has released the feature trailer for Adam Shankman’s big screen adaptation of the broadway musical Rock of Ages. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Warner Brothers sets The Hangover Part III for release on May 24, 2013 + 300 sequel set for August 2, 2013 and Pacific Rim pushed back to July 12, 2013

Warner Brothers announced that Todd Phillips’ The Hangover Part III will be released on May 24, 2013. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis will all reprise their roles of Phil, Stu and Alan. Meanwhile, WB also announced that Guilermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim will be pushed back two months to July 12, 2013 (from May 5, 2013 ), while the 300 sequel (tentatively titled “300: Battle of Artemisia”) will be released on August 2, 2013.
