Canada-USA Hockey on MSNBC draws 8.2 million viewers; 167 million Americans have watched 2010 Vancouver Olympics

Last night’s highly anticipated Olympic Hockey match-up between Canada and USA — which ended in USA’s 5-3 upset over Canada — drew an average 8.22 million viewers on MSNBC.  That’s just shy of MSNBC’s record average viewership for a program (the networks coverage of John McCain’s concession speech on November 4, 2008 — from 11:19-11:29 p.m.  — drew 8.23 million viewers).

In related news, NBC says that more than half of all Americans (167 million) have watched the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics on the various networks of NBC Universal through the first 10 days of the games.  That’s three million more than the first 10 days of the 2006 Winter Games (164 million).
