President Obama’s speech on death of Osama bin Laden watched by more than 56 million viewers in U.S.

President Obama’s late-night speech to the nation announcing the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden was watched by 56.7M viewers across 11 networks, Nielsen reports.

It is now President Obama’s most-watched speech of his presidency to date.

The 9-minute announcement was shown on ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, Centric, CNBC, FNC, HLN and MSNBC.

2010 FIFA World Cup reaches nearly 112 million U.S. viewers

Mexico vs. Argentina match on Univision is most-watched program in Spanish-language television history — 9.4M Viewers

Yesterday’s highly anticipated 2010 FIFA World Cup™ match-up between Mexico and Argentina delivered the highest viewership ever for Univision, attracting over 9.3 million Total Viewers 2+ (9,362,938) who watched the event. The match exceeded the performance of all previous programs in the network’s history, regardless of genre, and is the single most watched telecast in the history of Spanish-language television in the United States. Univision’s broadcast of Mexico vs. Argentina also registered impressive audience levels across all key demos, attracting over 5.5 million Adults 18-49 (5,589,239), over 3.3 million Adults 18-34 (3,318,956) and more than 4 million Persons 12-34 (4,192,631).

U.S.-England: Most-Watched FIFA World Cup First-Round Match and Most-Viewed United States Match Since 1994

Saturday’s highly anticipated United States-England match on ABC — which ended in a 1-1 tie – is the most-watched FIFA World Cup first-round match among households and viewers, and the most-viewed United States Men’s National Team game since 1994. The two-hour match window (2:30-4:30 p.m. ET) averaged a 7.3 household rating, 8,391,000 households, and 12,956,000 viewers, based on fast nationals.

The 12.956 million is in addition to the 4.110 million who watched the game on Univision, bringing the two-network average to an impressive 17.066 million viewers.
