Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to produce reboots of The Mummy and Van Helsing; Tom Cruise attached to star in Van Helsing

Universal Pictures today announced the studio has signed a two-year first-look production deal with one of the leading writing/producing teams in the entertainment industry, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and their K/O Paper Products banner. The duo will kick off their new relationship with Universal by reimagining titles from the studio’s library including Van Helsing and The Mummy. The announcement was made by Universal Pictures Chairman, Adam Fogelson and Co-Chairman, Donna Langley.

Universal rebooting The Mummy

Universal Pictures is rebooting The Mummy franchise, tapping “Prometheus” writer Jon Spaihts to pen the project. Sean Daniel is returning to produce. The $1.25B franchise last hit theaters with 2008’s “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon” which grossed more than $401M worldwide.

Universal Pictures has released a new red band trailer for Ted, the R-rated comedy and directorial debut from “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane. The live-action/animated comedy stars Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis with MacFarlane lending his voice for the character Ted. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Ted is scheduled to hit theaters on July 13, 2012.
