Warner Brothers’ heavily promoted 3D feature Clash of the Titans from director Louis Leterrier debuted in a strong first place Friday, grossing an estimated $26.36 million from 3,777 theaters. Including Thursday night sneaks, the film is at an estimated $29.015 million (Note: Thursday night screenings accounted for $2.655 million of the film’s gross and Thursday night / Friday midnight screenings accounted for $4.2 million of the film’s gross).
Also opening strong yesterday was Tyler Perry’s latest ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’, which opened in second place with an estimated $12.35 million from 2,155 theaters for a robust per theater average of $5,731. This will be Perry’s 2nd or 3rd best performing film of his career.
Third place went to DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon, which fell just 8.8% from last Friday for an estimated $11.05 million (est. $74.176 million domestic cume). Rounding out the top five were The Last Song (est. $7.1M / $16.488M cume) and Alice in Wonderland (est. $3.0M / $304.526M cume). Click over the jump for the daily chart and more analysis.
