The film stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz,  Django Unchained is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2012.

Dr. Suess’ The Lorax delivers year’s biggest opening weekend with $70.7M; Project X has solid $20.8M debut

Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax exceeded all expectations and opened with an estimated $70.7M from 3,729 theaters, delivering the year’s biggest opening weekend. The project opened on Friday to an estimated $17.4M, but exploded to an estimated $31.3M on Saturday (+80%). Universal is projecting a 30% dip on Sunday to $22.0M.

Relativity and Dimension Films hire F. Javier Gutierrez to direct The Crow; Jesse Wigutow to pen script

Relativity Media’s Co-President, Tucker Tooley, Edward R. Pressman, producer behind the cult-classic The Crow franchise, and The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Films, announced today they have closed a deal with F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before The Fall) to direct a reinvention of The Crow, the 1994 smash hit film based on the comic book series and comic strip by James O’Barr. Writer Jesse Wigutow has signed on to pen the script.

Rumor: Bryan Singer developing The Six Billion Dollar Man with Leonardo DiCaprio as lead

Latino Review is reporting that Bryan Singer is developing a big screen version of the TV series “The Six Million Dollar Man”, titled The Six Billion Dollar Man with Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt in talks to join Django Unchained

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to join Quentin Tarantino’s spaghetti western Django Unchained.

Gordon-Levitt would join Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and Kurt Russell in the film, which is scheduled to begin production this January for a December 25, 2012 release date.

Piranha 3DD teaser trailer

Dimension Films has released the teaser trailer for Piranha 3DD. The film was recently shifted out of its November 23, 2011 and will now be released sometime in 2012.

John Gulager is directing the sequel from a script by Patrick Melton. The 2010 film didn’t capture much of an audience domestically (grossing just $25.0M), but the film caught on a bit stronger overseas where it added $58.2M for $83.2M worldwide. With a budget at just $25M, the modest success allowed Dimension/Weinstein to move quickly on development of Piranha 3DD.
