Peter Jackson finalizes deal to direct The Hobbit; Project officially greenlit

The Hobbit has been given a greenlight by Warner Brothers and MGM and Peter Jackson has finalized his deal to direct the two-part Lord of the Rings prequel.

The Hobbit nearing official greenlight + December 2012 release date and 3D?

The wait for the two-part Hobbit movie may finally be nearing an end. The LA Times is reporting that MGM, Warner Brothers and its subsidiary New Line Cinema, “appear to be close to greenlighting” the two-part ‘Lord of the Rings’ prequel The Hobbit.

As previously reported, writer/producer Peter Jackson will direct both installments:

Peter Jackson says Hobbit plans will be announced soon

Peter Jackson told The Dominion Post Post that “sometime soon” he’ll know whether he’ll be directing the two ‘Hobbit‘ films.

Despite the continued debt issues for MGM, Jackson says that Warner Brothers, who is distributing the film along with MGM, is “making progress untangling the MGM situation…”.

IMAX signs 20-film deal with Warner Brothers; Films include Superman, Batman 3 and The Hobbit

IMAX has announced that they’ve completed a deal with Warner Brothers to release up to 20 films in IMAX format over the course of the next three and a half years (2010 through 2013). The deal includes several high-profile projects that are currently undated, including Mad Max: Fury Road, Superman, Batman 3 and The Hobbit (2013).
