Release date changes: Monsters, Inc. 2 moved up; Beauty and the Beast 3D and newt removed from schedule + more

Studios have made some adjustments to their release schedule with a few interesting highlights. First up, Disney-Pixar have moved up the release of Monsters, Inc. 2 to November 2, 2012 from November 16, 2012 while also pulling newt (originally scheduled for summer 2012) and Beauty and the Beast in 3D (originally scheduled for 2011) from their schedule entirely.

Just last week a New Zealand promotional trailer was released for Beauty and the Beast, so that may just be getting an earlier release. newt had been rumored as a cancellation for some time now. Leonardo DiCaprio Cast in Animated Feature The Guardians

dicaprioguardians-small-120409DreamWorks Animation announced today that Leonardo DiCaprio has been cast as Jack Frost in the animated feature The Guardians (working title), marking DiCaprio’s animated feature debut.

The film, described as “a contemporary fairytale based on existing fairytales” will be based on an upcoming book series by William Joyce (The Guardians of Childhood). DreamWorks Animation Unveils 2009-2012 Slate

shrek-052809DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg will unveil the studio’s film slate through late 2012 later today at an investment community conference.  The slate includes five original projects and several franchise follow-ups.  All the films will be produced in 3-D.  Also to be announced is the casting of Robert Downey Jr. and Tina Fey in Oobermind.

For 2010, the studio has set the afforementioned original project Oobermind (November 5, 2010), as well as How to Train Your Dragon (March 26, 2010).  The fourth installment in the Shrek franchise (now called Shrek Forever After) has also been set for a 2010 release (May 21, 2010).

Meanwhile on June 3, 2011 the studio has set the sequel Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom with both Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman confirmed to be returning.  Then on November 4, 2011 The Guardians, based on a not-yet-published book series from William Joyoce, will hit theaters.
