Captain America shortlist down to three?

According to their sources within Marvel, IESB is reporting that the shortlist for the actor who will play Captain America / Steve Rogers in Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America has been narrowed to three: Channing Tatum; Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan.   Both Tatum and Evans had been rumored previously, but Stan (who last year starred in the short-lived NBC series Kings) is a new name and is rumored to be high on Marvel’s list.  And that could be a problem.

Marvel considering Channing Tatum for Captain America

The search for the actor to play Captain America / Steve Rogers in Joe Johnston’s The First Avenger: Captain America is still ongoing, and Mike Fleming of Deadline New York reports that Marvel Studios has expanded their search to include Channing Tatum (“G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”):

I’m told that Marvel has also made an approach to Channing Tatum. Coming off G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra and Dear John, I would be surprised if he went in to test for the role., now that he’s become a bankable commodity. It’ll come down to Marvel making an offer, and Tatum either accepting it or rejecting it. But he is definitely in the mix, along with other confirmed candidates that include Fantastic Four’s Chris Evans, Cloverfield’s Mike Vogel and Tron Legacy’s Garrett Hedlund, and Generation Kill’s Wilson Bethel.

In his final battle with the superhero, he was buried under the rubble of a bombed building but — as would occur later with Captain America — fell into a state of suspended animation. Both were revived in modern times.
