The CW today announced that they’ve renewed Smallville for a 10th season. Although off from its year-ago numbers (in total viewers), Smallville is performing very nicely in its new tough Friday night time slot and has dramatically improved CW’s standing on Friday night over the year prior. The CW has given early season renewals to five series: The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, Supernatural and America’s Next Top Model. That leaves Life Unexpected, Melrose Place, One Tree Hill and Smallville as the only other original series left to be renewed.

The short-lived CW drama TBL: The Beautiful Life — which was yanked from the schedule after two horribly rated performances — will finish off its run online at YouTube.

The CW has decided to package the two Jusice Society-themed episodes “Society” and “Legends” as a two-hour movie event. The two episodes, penned by comic book writer Geoff Johns and featuring DC Comics characters Stargirl, Hawkman and Dr. Fete, will air on February 5, 2010.

The CW has picked up The Vampire Diaries to a full season. The series as pretty much been the only bright spot for the network, with last Thursday’s episode drawing a post-series high of 3.77 million viewers and a 1.8/5 A18-49 rating/share.
