TBS’s new original sitcom Men At Work debuts to more than 2.6M viewers

TBS’s all-new comedy series Men At Work scored 2,649,000 viewers; 1,630,000 adults 18-49; and 851,000 adults 18-34 in its debut last night, according to cable fast national data. The premiere of Men At Work also drew 14% more adults 18-34 and 7% more adults 18-49 than the prior four weeks of The Big Bang Theory in the Thursday 10 p.m. (ET/PT) timeslot. And it garnered more men 18-34 (395,000) than any previous TBS original sitcom premiere.

TBS and TNT unveil new series and Summer schedule

Two of cable’s most successful brands are once again paving the way to the future with a bold, industry-leading strategy. According to the vision laid out by executives during the annual Upfront presentation today in New York, TBS and TNT will undertake a major transformation over the next two years, evolving from linear television networks into branded video destinations.

“Our strategy is designed to confront the challenges of an ever-growing media universe by focusing on the strength of our brands, the power of our programming and the ability to deliver branded video content that can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere and on any device,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “To reach our destination, we will focus on leading with the strength of the TBS and TNT brands; cementing each network’s foundation with popular, high-profile acquisitions; expanding our lineup of scripted and unscripted original series to a year-round model; and maximizing multi-screen opportunities.”

Cougar Town renewed for a 15-episode fourth season; Moving to TBS

The critically-acclaimed but low-rated ABC comedy series Cougar Town has been renewed for a fourth season, but it won’t be returning to ABC. The comedy will instead premiere its fourth season on TBS:

Cougar Town, the acclaimed sitcom starring Golden Globe® nominee Courteney Cox, is moving to TBS. The top-rated network has ordered a fourth season of Cougar Town, to begin airing in early 2013. In addition, TBS has garnered the encore rights to Cougar Town’s first three seasons of 61 episodes that originally aired on ABC.

“Cougar Town is a smart, whimsical sitcom that draws its humor from likable, relatable characters” said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “We are thrilled to have Cougar Town moving to the TBS neighborhood as the network continues to expand its slate of original comedy series.”

2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship on TBS, CBS, TNT and truTv most-watched tournament in 18 years

CBS Sports and Turners Sports’ exclusive coverage of the 2012 NCAA® Division I Men’s Basketball Championship across TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV is the most-watched tournament in 18 years.

This year’s event is averaging a 5.3 U.S. HH rating through Saturday, up 4% compared with a 5.1 rating in 2011 and an increase of 15% over a 4.6 rating in 2010 (according to Nielsen Fast Nationals). The corresponding average of eight million viewers this year is +3% over last year’s 7.8 million viewers and +14% compared with seven million viewers in 2010.

TBS extends Conan through April 2014

Since premiering in November 2010, Conan has been a hit with TBS’s core audience of young adults. The show recently charted its third consecutive month of audience growth. The success of Conan also extends well beyond the show’s TBS telecasts to include widespread DVR, online and mobile viewing; interaction through Twitter, Facebook and TeamCoco.com. In the past year, Conan has conducted special events throughout the country, including a week of shows from the Beacon Theater in New York and fan art exhibits in New York City and San Diego. In June 2012, Conan will travel again, this time for a week of shows in Chicago.

TBS orders 35 episodes of Tyler Perry’s For Better or Worse

TBS has ordered 35 additional episodes of the top-rated sitcom Tyler Perry’s For Better Or Worse, which finished its first season as basic cable’s #1 sitcom of 2011. The series from writer-director-executive producer Tyler Perry focuses on three couples at various stages of their relationships. The ensemble cast includes Tasha Smith (Why Did I Get Married Too?, Couples Retreat), Michael Jai White (Why Did I Get Mar ried Too?, Spawn), Crystle Stewart (Miss USA 2008), Kent Faulcon (American Beauty), Kiki Haynes (Nora’s Hair Salon) and Jason Olive (Melrose Place, Raising Helen). Tyler Perry’s For Better Or Worse will return to its Friday night timeslot this summer.

TBS’ ALDS Game Four between Yankees/Tigers delivers more than 7M viewers

TBS and TNT’s exclusive coverage of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) League Division Series (LDS) featured a four-game slate including a primetime match-up in Game 4 between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers that delivered 7,012,000 total viewers, up + 16% and a 4.6 U.S. Household rating, up +18% over coverage of Game 3. The match-up was the most-watched LDS game since 2007 (Yankees-Indians Game 4, 9,232,000 total viewers).

Game 3 of Yankees/Tigers MLB LDS series draws more than 6M viewers; +26% over 2010

TBS’ exclusive coverage of Major League Baseball’s (MLB) League Division Series (LDS) featured a primetime match-up in Game 3 between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers and garnered 6,046,000 total viewers, +26% over the Yankees’ ALDS Game 3 in 2010 (4,810,000 total viewers), and a 3.9 U.S. Household rating, +30% (3.0 U.S. HH rating) over the corresponding elimination Game 3 between the Yankees and Minnesota Twins in 2010. Overall, TBS’ fourth day of exclusive MLB LDS coverage averaged 4,590,000 total viewers, +12% (4,101,000 total viewers), and a 3.0 U.S. HH rating, +15% (2.6 U.S. HH rating) over the network’s fourth day of postseason coverage a year ago.

ALDS Game One on TBS attracts more than 2.8M viewers; Double-digit growth over 2010

TBS’s exclusive coverage of Major League Baseball’s American League Division Series (ALDS) between the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers on Friday, September 30, earned a 1.9 U.S. household rating and 2,866,000 total viewers according to Nielsen’s Fast Nationals. That is up 19% and 28% respectively versus the network’s coverage of Game 1 last year between these two teams. The Rays defeated the Rangers 9-0 to take a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.

TNT and TBS announce new shows including The Closer spinoff Major Crimes + More

TNT and TBS, which staged their Upfront presentation today in New York, are making bold moves to bolster their remarkably strong foundations in original programming. The networks are developing extensive new lineups of scripted and unscripted series and making a new push into half-hour comedy in partnership with some of the top talents in the industry, from award-winning actors to acclaimed producers, writers and best-selling authors.

This year marks the beginning of production of the final season of the blockbuster hit The Closer, starring Emmy® winner Kyra Sedgwick. TNT confirmed today that it has ordered a 10-episode season of Major Crimes, a series set in the Los Angeles Police Department that promises to become television’s next great crime drama. The seventh and final season of The Closer will include 15 episodes in 2011 and six in summer 2012, leading into the launch of Major Crimes, starring Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica). McDonnell has been featured on The Closer as Capt. Raydor, who was often on a collision course with Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, played by Sedgwick. Major Crimes will be executive-produced by James Duff, creator of The Closer, along with Greer Shephard and Michael M. Robin. Major Crimes and The Closer come to TNT from Warner Bros. Television.

TBS cancels Glory Daze

Glory Daze, TBS’s first hourlong comedy series, has been canceled by the network. The series premiered in November with a so-so 1.8M viewers and a 1.0 A18-49 rating, but concluded its 9-episode season on January 18 with 1.05M viewers and a 0.6 A18-49 rating.
