Showtime renews The Big C for third season

As the powerful second season of The Big C draws to a shocking conclusion on Monday, September 26th, SHOWTIME has picked up a third season of the critically-acclaimed comedy series starring Laura Linney as a reserved, suburban wife/mother/teacher whose terminal cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life and find the light side of a dark situation. Ten new episodes will go into production starting early next year for debut in the second quarter of 2012. The Big C is created and written by Darlene Hunt, who serves as executive producer, along with showrunner Jenny Bicks, Laura Linney, Neal H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

Edward James Olmos will guest star in the upcoming sixth season of Showtime’s hit original series Dexter. Olmos will play “a brilliant, charismatic professor of religious studies” in what Deadline calls “a major season-long arc”.

Dexter season six promo + Colin Hanks joins cast

Showtime has released the first promo for the upcoming sixth season of the hit drama Dexter. The promo doesn’t feature any new footage, however, choosing instead to highlight and recap previous seasons.

In casting news, TV Line is reporting that Colin Hanks has joined the cast for a season arc — appearing in all 12 episodes — playing a character named Travis, who is described as “a highly intelligent expert on ancient artifacts who gets linked to a series of grisly murders in Miami.”

Showtime renews The Borgias for a second season

SHOWTIME has picked up a second season of its hit drama series THE BORGIAS, it was announced today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. The series, which debuted earlier this month to critical and audience acclaim, delivered the best ratings for a new SHOWTIME drama series in seven years and attracted 3.71 million viewers across multiple platforms (On Demand, replays and DVR) during its premiere week. Season-to-date, The Borgias is pacing ahead of The Tudors season four, the series’ highest rated season ever. Ten new episodes will go into production this summer to air in 2012.

Alan Alda to guest-star on Showtime’s The Big C

Emmy-winning actor Alan Alda will guest-star on the  Showtime dark comedy The Big C. Alda will play a oncologist in one episode.

Season two of The Big C premieres on Showtime June 27, 2011 at 10:30 PM (following the premiere of “Weeds”).
