Showtime picks up new seasons Shameless, House of Lies and Californication

On the heels of record-setting premiere ratings for the network’s Sunday night line-up and continued audience growth, SHOWTIME has picked up new seasons of SHAMELESS, HOUSE OF LIES and Californication. The announcement was made today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. Production on the third season of SHAMELESS, the second season of HOUSE OF LIES and Californication’s sixth will commence in Los Angeles later this year.

Shameless and Episodes both renewed by Showtime for second seasons

Hot off their highly successful freshman seasons, SHOWTIME has ordered second seasons of SHAMELESS and EPISODES, it was announced today by David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc. Starring William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum, the outrageous hour-long family drama SHAMELESS received a 12-episode order for its second season, while half-hour comedy series EPISODES, starring TV icon Matt LeBlanc as a fictional version of himself, received a second season order with the number of episodes to be determined. Both series premiered on January 9 to widespread critical and audience acclaim, with SHAMELESS becoming SHOWTIME’s best performing freshman drama ever. Production on both series will begin later this year.

Californication delivers its best premiere ever + Strong start for Shameless

CALIFORNICATION delivered its best season premiere ever last night with 848,000 viewers at 9 p.m. and 1.12 million total viewers for the night. (Season 3 premiere: 821,000)
It’s important to note that CALIFORNICATION delivered these numbers while anchoring the night and without the benefit of its typical DEXTER lead-in.
70% of the weekly viewing to CALIFORNICATION in Season 3 occurred after its Sunday airing – the average weekly number across replays, DVR and on-demand for the series was 2.8 million viewers.

The series debut of SHAMELESS was SHOWTIME’s biggest drama series premiere in seven years with 982,000 total viewers at 10 p.m. and 1.3 million viewers for the night. (7 yrs ago: Dead Like Me with 1.11 million)
SHAMELESS bests other top SHOWTIME drama premieres including THE L Word (2004) – 936,000; The Tudors (2007) – 869,000; Dexter (2006) – 603,000
