An offer has been out to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides director Rob Marshall to direct a fifth ‘Pirates’ movie for some time now, but he’s been noncommital. Because of that, Cinema Blend reports that Disney has begun considering other alternatives should Marshall decline.

Michelle Williams will play the Good Witch, Glinda in the ‘Wizard of Oz’ prequel Oz, The Great and Powerful. The Disney project, directed by Sam Raimi, stars James Franco as the Wizard and Mila Kunis as Theodora. Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to play the Wicked Witch, Evanora.

Deadline is reporting that Rachel Weisz is in talks with Disney to join the Sam Raimi-directed ‘Wizard of Oz’ prequel Oz: The Great and Powerful. If cast, Weisz would join James Franco (Oz) and Mila Kunis (Theodora) as Evanora, the evil witch sister of Theodora.

New Line has pushed up the release of Final Destination 5 from August 26, 2011 to August 12. Weinstein Company is taking advantage of the shift by moving Oren Peli’s Apollo 18 out of 2012 (formerly January 6, 2012) and slating the film for August 26, 2011.

Variety has confirmed that Mila Kunis has finalized her deal to star as Theodora in Sam Raimi’s ‘Wizard of Oz’ prequel Oz, the Great and Powerful. Kunis will star opposite James Franco, who will be playing Oz.
Filming on Oz, the Great and Powerful begins this summer with a release expected in 2013.

James Franco is said to be in early talks to star in Sam Raimi’s prequel Oz, the Great and Powerful. Robert Downey Jr. was originally eyed for the role but he pulled out two and a half weeks ago. Johnny Depp was then in discussions, but Heat Vision | THR says he passed last night:

Sam Raimi has been tapped by DreamWorks to adapt the Radical graphic novel Earp: Saints for Sinners. Comic creator Matt Cirulnick will write the script for the project, which re-imagines Earp “in a future in which he takes on outlaws in a ravaged society where the only boomtown left is Las Vegas.”

Sam Raimi has reportedly been offered the director’s chair for Oz, The Great and Powerful. The project is a prequel to the 1939 MGM classic The Wizard of Oz with the script having been written by Mitchell Kapner. Disney wants to begin shooting sometime this year.
