While it opened to a strong $14.40 million on Friday, Brüno slid a steep 39% on Saturday to $8.75 million and took in $7.47 million on Sunday for a first place $30.62 million from 2,756 theaters for its opening weekend.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s R-rated comedy Brüno opened on Friday to an estimated $14.2 million and Universal Pictures is projecting that the film will gross $35.8 million for the weekend. Playing in 700 theaters post-midnight, Universal Pictures’ Brüno, from star Sacha Baron Cohen, took in an impressive $1.6 million.

Universal has announced that Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat follow-up Bruno has been given an R-Rating by the MPAA. You may remember that the film was initially given an NC-17 rating by the board (see related story).
