Confirmed: Summit Entertainment making Red sequel

Summit Entertainment has confirmed what Collider reported just a little more than a week ago: The studio has hired “Red” scribes Erich and Jon Hoeber to write the screenplay to Red 2:

Summit has hired brothers Erich and Jon Hoeber, who wrote the script for the hit action movie, to return to the keyboard to pen a second instalment. Although there are no confirmed deals at this stage with the original film’s stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Summit is pulling the trigger for a second helping of over-the-hill special ops agents shoot-’em-up.

Jon and Erich Hoeber returning to write Red sequel

Collider is reporting that Summit Entertainment has hired Jon and Erich Hoeber to write the screenplay for a  sequel to last year’s action-comedy Red. The duo wrote the original which went on to gross a respectable $164.7M worldwide ($90.1M domestic / $74.6M foreign).

Paranormal Activity 2 opens to supernatural horror record $40.7M

Paramount’s Paranormal Activity 2 opened to $40.678M from 3,216 theaters ($12,649/theater avg.) for a supernatural horror movie record. The first Paranormal Activity had a staggered roll-out, but its biggest weekend was only a little more than half that of ‘PA2′ (Week 5: $21.104M / 1,945 theaters).

Comic-Con 2010: Trailer for Syfy TV movie Red, starring Felicia Day

Here’s the official trailer for Red, starring Felicia Day. Not to be confused with the Summit Entertainment movie with the same name, this TV movie will air sometime in 2011 on the Syfy channel.

Day portrays the descendent of the werewolf-hunting family from the classic fairy tale (you know the one) in the first of Syfy’s re-imaginings of classic fairy tales.

Two new RED character posters: Karl Urban and Mary-Louise Parker

Summit Entertainment has released two more character posters for the upcoming graphic novel adaptation RED. The new posters feature Karl Urban and Mary-Louise Parker. Check them out in full after the jump.

Synopsis

Red is the story of Frank Moses (Willis), a former black-ops CIA agent, who is now living a quiet life. That is until the day a hi-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his identity compromised and the life of the woman he cares for, Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker), endangered, Frank reassembles his old team (Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren) in a last ditch effort to survive. Also in the cast are Karl Urban, Brian Cox, Richard Dreyfuss, Ernest Borgnine, Julian McMahon, James Remar and Rebecca Pidgeon.

RED is scheduled to hit theaters on October 15, 2010.
