Josh Brolin to star in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake + Christian Bale considering villain role

Deadline is reporting that Josh Brolin will star in Spike Lee’s remake of the Park Chan-wook’s 2003 Korean thriller Oldboy. Production on the film is scheduled to begin next June.


In related news, Variety reports that Christian Bale is considering the villain role in the film.

Mandate Pictures has confirmed a recent report by Twitch that Spike Lee will be directing the Oldboy remake. Mandate also announced that Mark Protosevich has adapted the screenplay and will co-produce. Click over the jump for the complete press release.

In related news, Twitch says Josh Brolin Mandate’s top choice to play the lead role in the film. which is a remake of the South Korean film.

Report: Spike Lee in talks to direct Oldboy remake

Twitch is reporting that the remake of the Park Chan-Wook’s Oldboy is still alive, with Mark Protosevich hired to write the script and Spike Lee is reportedly in talks to direct the project.

Previously, Will Smith was rumored for the lead role. There’s no update on whether that’s still the case.

Will Smith and Steven Spielberg’s Old Boy Remake Not Happening

The Oldboy remake from Will Smith and Steven Spielberg appears to be dead.  Latino Review is reporting that Mandate and DreamWorks didn’t see eye-to-eye on the project resulting in DreamWorks walking away.  That means no Spielberg and no Smith, and therefore the remake is dead.
