Super Bowl XLV on FOX is most-watched program in TV history with 111M viewers

FOX Sports’ broadcast of Super Bowl XLV averaged 111 million viewers and is the most-watched television program in U.S. history, obliterating the prior record of 106.5 set last year during Super Bowl XLIV by 4.5 million viewers and the 106.0 million for the series finale of M*A*S*H, which held the viewership record from 1983 to 2010.

NFL has most-watched conference championship Sunday in 29 years: 51.9M for Packers/Bears on FOX, 54.8M for Jets/Steelers on CBS

Football fans across America continue to tune in to NFL games, resulting in the most-watched conference championship Sunday in 29 years. An average of 53.4 million viewers watched NFL games last weekend, the most for an NFL conference championship Sunday since January 1982 (game-by-game comparison below).

AFC Championship Game on CBS is most-watched ever: 54.85M viewers

CBS Sports’ coverage of the 2011 AFC CHAMPIONSHIP game featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers defeating the New York Jets on Sunday, Jan. 23 (6:40-9:54 PM, ET) was the most-watched ever, seen by an average of 54.850 million viewers (Persons 2+). The previous high was in 1982 for San Diego vs. Cincinnati (51.620 million viewers; 1/10/82; NBC).

CBS’s telecast of Patriots/Jets is most-watched divisional playoff game with 43.5M viewers

THE NFL ON CBS’s broadcast of the AFC Divisional Playoff game featuring the New York Jets’ 28-21 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday, Jan. 16 averaged 43.5 million viewers, which is projected to be the highest viewer average and most-watched Divisional Playoff game on any network (dating as far back as CBS records exist, 1987-88). (Final ratings will be available on Friday, January 21.)

2011 Playoffs are already most-watched ever on FOX; 34.1M average for three games so far

Through three telecasts, the 2011 NFC PLAYOFFS on FOX are averaging a 19.4/35 (34.1 million viewers). That’s +1% better than last year’s 19.2/36 (33.3 million viewers) and ranks as FOX’s highest-rated NFL postseason since 2004 (19.7/37), and currently ranks as the network’s most-watched ever according to Nielsen Media Research.

FOX’s telecast of Packers/Eagles is most-watched Wildcard game of all-time with 39.3M viewers

Yesterday’s thrilling NFC Wildcard clash between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles on FOX is the single most-watched Wildcard game ever on any network, according to Nielsen Media Research. The quarterback battle between Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and Philadelphia’s Michael Vick was watched by a record 39.3 million viewers and scored a 22.1/37 household rating/share. Sunday’s significant viewership is +14% (vs. 34.4 million viewers) and up +13% in rating (vs. 19.6/34) over a high-scoring overtime Packers-Cardinals game last year on FOX.

The special Tuesday edition of “Sunday Night Football” was the most-watched show on Tuesday, the 16th straight week that primetime football on NBC defeated its nightly competition…

The game, in which the Minnesota Vikings upset the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-14, in the first NFL Tuesday game since 1946, was seen by 23.7 million viewers (8:07-11:22 p.m. ET), a gain of 25 percent over last year’s Week 16 game (Cowboys-Redskins, 19.0 million) and is the fifth most-watched SNF game this season and the sixth most-watched ever on “Sunday Night Football.”
