37.8M watch President Barack Obama’s 2012 State of the Union

President Barack Obama delivered his State of the Union address.  The address was carried live from 9:00PM to approximately 10:15 PM on 14 networks.  The sum of average audience for those networks was 37,752,613 viewers, with a combined household rating of 24.0.  The networks carrying the address were ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CNBC, CNN, FBN, FOXNC, GALA, MSNBC, MUN2 and on tape delay on TEL, TF and UNI.

MSNBC announces primetime lineup changes

Starting Monday, October 24th, “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” will move back to its original time slot of 10 p.m. ET/PT, Monday-Thursday. “The Ed Show” with Ed Schultz will lead off MSNBC’s primetime lineup each weeknight at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The announcement was made today by Phil Griffin, President of MSNBC. “The Rachel Maddow Show” will continue to air live at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

President Obama’s Jobs speech averages 31.4M viewers

President Obama’s Job’s speech to a joint session of Congress averaged 31.439M viewers across 11 networks. The address was carried live from approximately 7:00-8:00 p.m. on ABC, AZA, CBS, NBC, TEL, UNI, CNBC, CNN, FBN, FOXNC, and MSNBC. The combined household rating/share was a 20.9/39.

MSNBC Republican Presidential Debate draws 5.4M viewers; Highest-rated Republican debate in 2011

The Republican Presidential Debate that aired on MSNBC last night drew 5.4 million viewers, soundly out-rating both FNC and CNN in total viewers and the key adult demographic, with 5,411,000 in total viewers and 1,728,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo, according to program data from Nielsen Media Research. President Obama’s speech on death of Osama bin Laden watched by more than 56 million viewers in U.S.

President Obama’s late-night speech to the nation announcing the death of terrorist Osama bin Laden was watched by 56.7M viewers across 11 networks, Nielsen reports.

It is now President Obama’s most-watched speech of his presidency to date.

The 9-minute announcement was shown on ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, Centric, CNBC, FNC, HLN and MSNBC.

Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton averages 22.8M viewers in US

The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton last Friday, April 29, averaged 22,766,469 viewers across 11 networks from approximately 6AM to 7:15AM, Nielsen Wire reports.

President Obama’s address at Tucson Memorial averaged 30.8M viewers

Nielsen has announced that President Barack Obama’s address at the Tucson Memorial averaged 30,773,369 viewers and a combined HH rating/share of 19.4/31 on seven networks: ABC; CBS; FOX; NBC; CNN; FOX News and MSNBC. The address was carried live from approximately 8:45-9:15 PM.

Canada-USA Hockey on MSNBC draws 8.2 million viewers; 167 million Americans have watched 2010 Vancouver Olympics

Last night’s highly anticipated Olympic Hockey match-up between Canada and USA — which ended in USA’s 5-3 upset over Canada — drew an average 8.22 million viewers on MSNBC.  That’s just shy of MSNBC’s record average viewership for a program (the networks coverage of John McCain’s concession speech on November 4, 2008 — from 11:19-11:29 p.m.  — drew 8.23 million viewers).

In related news, NBC says that more than half of all Americans (167 million) have watched the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics on the various networks of NBC Universal through the first 10 days of the games.  That’s three million more than the first 10 days of the 2006 Winter Games (164 million).
