FX acquires premiere rights to Green Lantern and Mr. Popper’s Penguins

FX has acquired the premiere rights to Green Lantern and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. The two films joins an already impressive slate of pick-up’s, including 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men: First Class”, Paramount Pictures’ “Super 8”, Disney’s “Tron: Legacy”, Sony’s “The Green Hornet” and Warner Brothers’ “The Hangover Part II”.

Green Lantern opens to solid $3.35M midnights / $22M Friday; On track for $55-65M for weekend

Warner Brothers’ Martin Campbell-directed Green Lantern opened to a solid $3.35M midnight showings from 1,810 theaters. That was better than Marvel/Paramount’s “Thor” ($3.25M) and only slightly behind 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men: First Class” ($3.37M).

Teaser trailer for Mr. Popper’s Penguins

Fox has released a teaser trailer for the family comedy Mr. Popper’s Penguins. The comedy stars Jim Carrey in an adaptation of Richard Atwater’s Newbery Award-winning children’s book which tells the story of:

“…a poor house painter named Mr. Popper and his family, who live in the small town of Stillwater in the 1930s. The Poppers unexpectedly come into possession of a penguin then got a penguin from the zoo who mates with the first penguin to have 10 baby penguins and something must be done before they eat the Poppers out of house and home.”

Mr. Popper’s Penguins is scheduled to hit theaters on June 17, 2011.
