Warner Brothers’ Martin Campbell-directed Green Lantern opened to a solid $3.35M midnight showings from 1,810 theaters. That was better than Marvel/Paramount’s “Thor” ($3.25M) and only slightly behind 20th Century Fox’s “X-Men: First Class” ($3.37M).

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer, courtesy Yahoo! Movies, of Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. Head on over the jump to watch the trailer.
Starring Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt and Mark Strong, Robin Hood is scheduled to hit theaters on May 14, 2010.

Speaking with MTV, Green Lantern director Martin Campbell shot down rumors that Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) is in consideration for the role of Sinestro, and instead revealed that Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes, Kick-Ass) is in negotiations for the part:
“No, that’s completely wrong,” said Campbell of the persistent rumor, which popped up again recently despite Haley denying any involvement with the “Green Lantern” movie. “In fact, we’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro.”
“He’s not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro,” he added. “If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he’s very like him. The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life.”

Walt Disney Pictures announced today that principal photography for Andrew Stanton’s John Carter of Mars is now underway in London. The film is based on the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Barsoom Series, chronicling the journeys of Civil-War veteran John Carter (Taylor Kitsch).
It co-stars Lynn Collins (warrior princess Dejah Thoris) and Willem Dafoe (the Martian Tars Tarkas). The cast is rounded out by Thomas Haden Church, Polly Walker, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Bryan Cranston and Daryl Sabara. John Carter of Mars is expected to hit theaters in the summer of 2012.
