Writer Tapped for The Three Musketeers Reboot

Alexandre Dumas’ classic 17-century adventure The Three Musketeers is getting an update, ala Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock HolmesVariety reports that Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram is next taking on The Three Musketeers and has tapped screenwriter Peter Straughan (The Men Who Stare at Goats) to pen the draft:

Straughan’s script will play up the action and sexier elements of the story much the same way that Wigram, who co-wrote and produced “Sherlock Holmes,” reimagined the detective (limned by Robert Downey Jr.) as a bare-knuckle boxing, martial-arts savvy sleuth.

Note that this project is in no way connected to Paul W.S. Anderson’s The Three Musketeers 3D, which was announced in September 2009.  Last we heard from that project, filming was supposed to get underway this September.
