Disney has announced that Thor 2 will be released on July 26, 2013. Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role as the title character, but director Kenneth Branagh won’t be back. According to Deadline, Branagh’s exit was “mutal and amicable” and the director will likely be involved in the project as a producer.

The Paramount Pictures-distributed Marvel Studios 3D superhero film Thor opened to a solid estimated $66M this weekend. Marvel notes that this is the third strongest bow for a new franchise — below only “Spider-Man” and “Iron Man” (although it should be noted “Hulk”, “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four” all sold more tickets. — via GiteshPandya | Twitter).

Paramount Pictures Thor drew a solid $3.25M from midnight Thursday screenings.

IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) (TSX:IMX), Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment, LLC formally announced today that they have finalized an agreement to release the epic superhero adventure Thor in digital IMAX(R) theatres worldwide day-and-date on May 6, 2011. The release marks the continuation of the partnership between IMAX, Paramount and Marvel. The film, based on the well-known Marvel comic book, is directed by Kenneth Branagh, produced by Kevin Feige, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins. The screenplay is by Ashley Edward Miller & Zack Stentz and Don Payne from a story by J. Michael Straczynski and Mark Protosevich.

Paramount Pictures has released a new clip from Kenneth Branagh’s Thor.
In other news, we now have confirmation that Jeremy Renner will make his debut as Hawkeye in the film. Renner will play the role to a fuller degree when Joss Whedon’s The Avengers hits theaters on May 4, 2012. Click over the jump to watch the clip.
