Title changes for John Carter of Mars and Andrew Niccol’s Now

Disney shifts release dates of John Carter of Mars and Frankenweenie

Walt Disney Studios has announced that they’ve shifted the release dates of John Carter of Mars and Frankenweenie. ‘Mars’ is now scheduled to hit theaters on March 9, 2012 versus the originally scheduled June 8 slot, while Frankenweenie will now hit theaters on October 9, 2012 instead of March 9.

Disney sets 2012 release dates for John Carter of Mars and Frankenweenie

Disney has set release dates for two highly anticipated projects. John Carter of Mars, Pixar director Andrew Stanton’s first live action feature, will hit theaters on June 8, 2012 while Tim Burton’s stop-motion animated feature Frankenweenie will hit theaters on March 9, 2012. Michael Giacchino will score Disney’s John Carter of Mars

MovieScore Magazine has confirmed with Disney-Pixar that Michael Giacchino (“Up”, “Star Trek”) will write the score for Andrew Stanton’s (“WALL•E”) upcoming live-action/animated adaptation John Carter of Mars.  Giacchino has had a long-running relationship with Pixar, and just last weekend won an Academy Award for his score to Up.

John Carter of Mars Starts Principal Photography

Walt Disney Pictures announced today that principal photography for Andrew Stanton’s John Carter of Mars is now underway in London.  The film is based on the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Barsoom Series, chronicling the journeys of Civil-War veteran John Carter (Taylor Kitsch).

It co-stars Lynn Collins (warrior princess Dejah Thoris) and Willem Dafoe (the Martian Tars Tarkas).  The cast is rounded out by Thomas Haden Church, Polly Walker, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Bryan Cranston and Daryl Sabara. Bryan Cranston Joins John Carter of Mars
