Michelle Obama will make her late night talk show debut as the First Lady of the United States on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” (Monday – Friday, 11:35 p.m.-12:35 a.m. ET on NBC) on Tuesday, January 31.

The First Lady is expected to talk about her “Let’s Move” campaign, what life is like for her and her family in the White House and her upcoming book about the White House kitchen garden.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno gets big boost from President Barack Obama guest appearance

President Barack Obama’s guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Tuesday night gave the show a big boost. The show drew a 4.1 meter-market household rating, which was the show’s largest audience since March 2, 2010. It was also up by more than 50% over the current season average.

Conan O’Brien Ends Run As Tonight Show Host With Ratings High

Conan O’Brien’s final Tonight Show drew an impressive 4.8 A8-49 rating, a record-high for his program:

“Walking away from The Tonight Show is the hardest thing I have ever had to do,” O’Brien said. “I have worked with NBC for over twenty years. Yes, we have our differences right now and yes, we’re going to go our separate ways. But this company has been my home for most of my adult life. I am enormously proud of the work we have done together, and I want to thank NBC for making it all possible.”

NBC and Conan O’Brien Finalize Tonight Show Exit; $45M to Conan and Staff; Conan Free to Host Elsewhere on September 1, 2010

NBC and Conan O’Brien have reached a $45 million exit deal. Under the deal, Conan will get more than $33M, while the rest of the money will go to his staff in severance (many of whom left with their families from NY to LA). Conan ends his run as the host of The Tonight Show on Friday, January 22nd.

NBC Officially Ends The Jay Leno Show At 10PM, Wants To Keep Leno, O’Brien AND Fallon

Jay Leno Addresses Cancellation Rumors

During the taping for The Jay Leno Show, comedian Jay Leno addressed the cancellation rumors during his opening monologue.  On that point, NBC has responded to the cancellation / rumors of Leno moving back to 11:30 p.m.:

NBC executives held discussions with both Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien Thursday about the future of the network’s late-night lineup. And while executives said that no final decision has been made, they did not deny that the network is considering moves that could include returning Mr. Leno to his old job as host of “The Tonight Show.”

And here’s TMZ‘s report about Leno moving back to 11:30 p.m.:

We’ve learned Jay’s 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided — whether Jay’s show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay’s show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O’Brien.

The White House has announced that President Barack Obama, during a trip to Los Angeles on Thursday, will appear on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.  NBC will tape the program and air it that night, after the president has returned to Washington.
