IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX) and Paramount Pictures Corporation, a unit of Viacom Inc., today announced that the sequel to J.J. Abrams’ 2009 blockbuster Star Trek, will be released in the immersive IMAX® 3D format on May 17, 2013. The film represents the second feature in the ground-breaking franchise to be released in IMAX following Star Trek, which grossed more than $375 million at the worldwide box office.

The first photos from the set of J.J. Abrams’ follow-up to 2009’s Star Trek have surfaced on the internet. The photos feature Zachary Quinto (Spock), Zoe Saldana (Uhura) as well as our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch (who play’s the film’s villain). Click over the jump to see more photos.
One of the shots also confirms that at least some scenes from the film will be shot with IMAX cameras:

Paramount Pictures has officially announced that principal photography began January 12, 2012 in Los Angeles, CA on the sequel to 2009’s Star Trek from director J.J. Abrams. The complete press release is included after the jump.

J.J. Abrams has selected Alice Eve to join the ensemble cast of his Star Trek sequel. According to Variety, Eve will be playing a character that is believed to be new to “Star Trek” canon.
Variety also confirmed that Benicio del Toro’s deal is pending to play an as-yet-unannounced villain in the project.

Paramount Pictures will release J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel on May 17, 2013. The original report surfaced at Deadline but has since been confirmed by TrekMovie who confirms that the film will be released in 2D and 3D.

TrekMovie is reporting that J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek sequel will begin shooting on January 15, 2012. Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman revealed that J.J. Abrams’ sequel to Star Trek could be released in 2013, confirming recent reports that the film would slip out of 2012.

Paramount Pictures has acquired a mystery adventure film from screenwriter Billy Ray and produce J.J. Abrams. No other details are known about the untitled project.

NBC has given a a pilot production commitment to producer J.J. Abrams (“Persons of Interest”, “Fringe”, “Star Trek”) and writer/producer Eric Kripke (“Supernatural”) thriller Revolution. Abrams will executive prdouce with Kripke and Bryan Burk.
Details are being kept under wraps, but according to Deadline it’s being described as an “epic adventure thriller”.
