Iron Man 2 had a standard drop on Monday, down 69.9% to $9.367 million. It’s also a better hold — both in gross and percent drop — than Iron Man‘s first Monday ($6.935M / -73.4%) back in 2008. Through four days, Iron Man 2 stands $35.371M ahead of the pace of Iron Man 2 ($137.49M vs. $102.119M). At this rate, Iron Man 2 will clear $300M and if it holds up strong, may be able to reach $350-375 million domestically. If it begins to falter though, $325M is more likely.
Rounding out the top three were A Nightmare on Elm Street with $795,363 ($49.275M cume) and How to Train Your Dragon with $382,066 ($201.396M cume). Click over the jump for the daily chart.

Iron Man 2 opened to an impressive $128.112 million from a record 4,380 theaters ($29,252 per theater average), or nearly $30M more than what the original Iron Man opened to in 2008 ($98.619M / $24,024 PTA).
While impressive in its own right, the weekend estimate was for an even more impressive $133.6 million and projections heading into the weekend assumed that the film could clear $140-160 million, possibly breaking The Dark Knight’s 3-day opening weekend. That obviously didn’t come close to happening.
The daily breakdown was $51.24 million on Friday (which includes about $7.5M from midnight screenings), $45.776M on Saturday (-10.7%) and $31.107M on Sunday (-32.0%). With about a weeks head-start in international markets — an estimated $194M — Iron Man 2 has grossed $322.122 million wordwide.
Rounding out the top three were A Nightmare on Elm Street in 2nd place with $9.119M (down -72.3% from the weekend prior and with a cume of $48.48M) and How to Train Your Dragon in 3rd place with $6.68M, which pushed its domestic cume past $200M ($201.014M). Click over the jump for the daily chart.

It didn’t break the opening day record of The Twilight Saga: New Moon ($72.7M) and it won’t break the opening weekend record of The Dark Knight ($158.4M), but Iron Man 2 still grossed a very respectable estimated $52.4M on Friday (including $7.5M from midnight screenings — and is on track for an impressive $130-140 [...]
